SET IN CHILE, A Fantastic Woman tells the emotional tale of Marina, a transgender woman, who’s partner, Orlando, dies unexpectedly. She is left to pick up the pieces while facing scrutiny from police and judgement from Orlando’s family. This movie showcases a stunning performance by Daniela Vega. Marina proves to be defiant and persistent even in her grief.
WHAT I LOVED most about this movie was Daniela Vega’s depiction of Marina. Marina is woman self-posessed and utterly defiant in the face of cruel treatment and dismissal of her grief. She doesn’t back down or apologize for who she is.
A Fantastic Woman is available to rent on various streaming platforms for around $3.99.
