Description by Bruno George, QMN regular:
NO ORDINARY MAN (2021) is a documentary about trans man Billy Tipton, a jazz musician who lived in Spokane, Washington, and was outed and misgendered after his death in 1989. Taking a critical look at the sensationalizing of trans lives, trans director Chase Joynt mixes archival footage and interviews with fictionalized scenes of the casting of a Billy Tipton biopic, allowing a variety of trans actors to play Billy and talk about what he meant to them. With appearances by Susan Stryker, Jamison Green, C. Riley Snorton, and Marquise Vilson from “The Aggressives” (2005).
No Ordinary Man is available to rent on various streaming platforms at $3.99. Check out JustWatch to see viewing options and prices. Many streaming services have free trial subscriptions.
