LGBTQ+ and Allied Community Action Events

Under the Rainbow: Storytelling for the LGBTQ+ and Allied Community takes place every second Monday for teens and adults. Storytelling is reserved for LGBTQ+ guests; allies are welcome in the audience and to participate in the post-story conversations.  

Admission is free and refreshments are provided

6:00 p.m. — snacks and socializing

6:30-7:45 p.m. — featured and open-mic storytelling; each story followed by group conversation

Johnny Townsend

JOHNNY TOWNSEND  has published stories and essays in  the newspapers Newsday, the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times; in the magazines The Humanist and The Progressive;  in the anthologies  “The Kindness of Strangers,”  “Queer Fish, ” “Latter-Gay Saints”; and in many other publications. His books include  “Mormon Underwear,”  “Zombies for Jesus,”  “Gayrabian Nights” and  “Human Compassion for Beginners”  He was also an associate producer for the documentary  “Upstairs Inferno.” His books have been named to Kirkus Reviews’ Best of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. His latest collection of essays, “Breaking the Promise of the Promised Land: How Religious Conservatives Failed America,” was published in October 2019.
